I was recently on a road trip from Idaho to Northern California (Stockton area) and the battery power indicator started dropping from about 13 volts to 12, then 11.8 and on. I figured right away that there must be an alternator issue. I was towing a 17 ft Passport Hideout with my 2018 Colorado Diesel with about 35,000 miles on it. Long story short - it was the alternator, Friday afternoon, and no alternators available, had to be shipped which would be 3-5 business days and then one day in shop for replacement. I believe the factory warranty had just run out, of course. New alternator from GM and replacement cost was about $500.00.
Reviewing many links in this forum I see a lot of similar stories with the alternator going out at about 35,000 miles. I think this needs to be a recall item and covered by GM. Anyone with suggestions?

Mine just experienced the same issue as above but didn't leave me stranded. was told by a alternator rebuild shop those have a clutch that wears out usually at a 100K miles. Mine has 139K. getting rebuilt tomorrow. Will post results.
