Hey guys thought I would check out the forum! I’m loving my Canyon so far but I’m having a torque converter lockup issue so I look forward to scouring the board to find an answer to my problem.

If anyone here can point me in the right direction to save me some time let me know!

P0741 Possible Causes
  • Low transmission fluid level
  • Dirty transmission fluid
  • Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
  • Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness or connectors
  • Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
  • Transmission internal mechanical problem
Results of inter webs search. You checked all the easy stuff?

Thank you, yes I checked the fluids already. I climbed underneath to make sure I didn’t have any loose wiring or harnesses. I am not positive which harness goes to the torque converter lockup solenoid or where it’s located, I’ve had trunks finding that online. I’d like to troubleshoot or swap the solenoid and see what that does.

I haven’t seen any other posts about this or hearing of any real transmission or torque converter issues on these trucks so I’m hoping that is just the solenoid.
Is it causing the truck to shift abnormally? I haven't heard of this issue. I have heard of peoples torque converters going out though...

Have you changed the transmission fluid yet being as you have 62k miles? If not, you might look into doing that as it could help your issue and would probably be good in general for the truck/ transmission.

Well that’s the thing, I just bought it this weekend as is and the light came on on the way home. In not entirely sure if it’s shifting normal or not, it’s my 1st time owning a diesel as well.

I don’t know if they have changed the transmission fluid or not, I’m guessing no. I will do that and see if it makes a difference as well. Thanks for a reply guys

How does somebody know which harnesses or for what relays/solenoids etc.

My wiring harness has been rubbing on the back of my air conditioning compressor and I can tell that someone has taped the harness before and they put a piece of tape over where it was rubbing the compressor and it rubbed through the tape. I wonder if my problem could be in this particular loom.

There is a known wire chaffing issue on our trucks, which seems to be your issue as well. It can cause all sorts of problems. Here is the link to it: https://www.coloradodiesel.org/threads/wire-chaffing-issue.65385/#post-112167

Unless the wires are color coded and there are no double up's, you would probably have to get a wiring schematic. Or take it to GM and let them figure it out.

OK well thank you for the link, I will have to read it in a little bit when I get a little more time.

hopefully it is something as easy as one damaged wire, I can handle that. I have an appointment tomorrow at a dealership to get things checked out, I will show them what I have found and we will go from there I guess.

Wow, what a bummer. I am sorry to hear about the torque converter issue. Did you buy it at a dealership? The seller obviously knew about this issue prior to selling you the truck. If the dealer says it is an actual problem with the transmission or torque converter, I would do some research on buy back laws. Chances are, if the transmission is failing, they did some serious towing with that truck before you got it. I am hoping that is not the case, as I too do more than average towing.

I also agree with burgess159, wire chafing on my transfer case gave me tremendous issues, so hopefully the dealership can clean it up and isolate the problem. Let us know what the dealership says, I am interested to hear.

The dealership I bought it from is over 150 miles away, they are just a basic used car lot. They said the auction they bought it from is like 23 miles away from their dealership, I did the math on it and the check engine light was deleted about 27 miles before they took it from the auction. it’s possible they didn’t know.

I went to a local dealership today and it looks like it’s going to get expensive. There is a service bulletin about this and it’s most likely a failed turbine shaft front bushing which will require the removal and disassembly of the transmission to repair. They can start repairs Tuesday.

Hoping it is NOT a huge repair bill.

It is by all accounts, but I would not want to service one.
