Why not? Not disagreeing with you, and I see your point about the extent of actual user experience on the 6.5. But is this the reason that you don't expect the 2.8 to have normal truck diesel longevity?

I didn't bet the farm on ours lasting 15-20 years - i.e. if push comes to shove we can afford to replace it - but I won't replace it sooner if I don't have to......
Same reason as Oak1971 above. The physical engine will probably last a long and happy life if maintained properly. Transmission, questionable when comparing to a 4L80e which is basically a Turbo 400 with overdrive but I do believe with proper maintenance should last a pretty long time, a tune probably doesn't hurt either. All the other stuff bolted around the engine I have little faith in making it to 300K in a cost effective manner.
