i have an annoying noise coming from the front driver side wheel. the rpms don't seem to change the frequency much and i can't hear it when I'm going over a few miles per hour. the veh has 1700 miles on it but i heard the noise with 500 miles.

Just sounds like a diesel engine to me. Maybe it sounds different in person, though, don't know. I listened to a video of a 2.8 Duramax on YouTube and it sounds fairly similar to yours. I did find this video though of a 6.6 Duramax with an engine tick,

If you read through the comments, it had a blown head gasket. But it sounds much worse than yours does. I would have a hard time believing you have a blown head gasket at 1700 miles. But weirder things have happened on new vehicles.

It's very weird, it doesn't make the noise in idle, only when driving around 10mph or less but moving and it's not always. I feel it's coming from the 2wd/4wd

Have you used the 4WD any? Maybe it got stuck halfway between 2WD and 4WD at some point and messed something up. Something like that happened to my ATV and then when you put it in 4WD, it would click a bunch. Got to where it would even do it in 2WD so finally took it in and something had messed up in there and had to get a new shaft going to one wheel I think it was. Different situation I know, but it just sounded kind of similar after you mentioned the 4WD.

Mine has the same noise...I read on some other Duramax forums that it's the fuel pump and it's supposed to make that noise?

is there any way you can take a quick video, its sounds so metallic.

also when im crawling extremely slow it sounds like it slows down slightly with speed

also today I tested and it sounds the same in 2wd and 4wd

I'm getting the same thing. I noticed it when I went through a drive threw. It is annoying and I will be taking mine to the dealer this coming Wednesday. I'll keep y'all posted on what they say.

That is the exact same noise I have. Only happens when the truck is in motion, never changes speed and stops when the truck is stopped. The tick on mine actually starts as soon as I let off the brakes leading me to believe that it is a normal condition. It is clearly coming from the rear so I just figured it to be the fuel pump.

the dealership said they couldn't recreate it so I am just waiting for something to break so it will get fixed. if anyone has any fixes please let us know. I am sure everyone in here would like that clicking on our new trucks to not be there.

Mine does it also. I hear it when my window is down and I'm in a drive thru. I was guessing a speed sensor? I'll just turn the Bose up lol

Another confirmation of mine does it too. Like most I notice it at a drive thru with window down. Starts with brake pedal release and continues until I stop or accelerate onto a road.

On a different forum someone posted that there was some type of exhaust valve that made a distinct clicking noise at low speeds but not at stop.

Did anyone come to a conclusion on what the ticking noise Is? My truck has 7200 miles on it and i notice going thru drive thru also.

I had to relisten to the video the OP posted since I had not heard it in a while. I have headphones on and at first all I heard was the ticking of the diesel engine. But, I listened a little harder and I could hear what sounds like, what I would call, a belt ticking. Like, whenever the belt goes around and hits the splice I guess. It's kind of faint though, but if you listen hard enough you can hear it. If you are talking about the loud ticking though in this video, that's just the engine. They're noisy, probably more so than the new 2017 Silverado 2500HD with the L5P 6.6 Duramax even.

from what ive heard from a few diesel techs, is that its the pistons, much like the big 6.6L dmax. they told me on the 6.6L the sound will expire after about 15-30k miles and will probably do the same on the 2.8L. I have 27k miles on mine, and its not gone, but I don't hear it near as often as I did
