Hello all! I'm new to this forum, and a relatively new 17 Colorado owner from Oregon. Having just drove my new truck across the country to CT to address some family matters, and of course break the truck in on my extended trip, I've decided to drop the cash and buy a tuner and cold air intake so I have a good comparison on the return trip.
So far Freedom Diesel has sent out the tuner with ECU/TCU tunes and the DSP4 switch ( which shipped direct from the distributor) not a bad 2 day turnaround. Intake should be here Monday. They did neglect to mention that 17s need a ECU unlock(I hope they don't try to nail me for a fee on that). First impression of the tuner was great. Good packaging, all cables included, but... the directions could be more up to date and more model specific, maybe some videos on the duramaxtuner website that cover common installation issues and unlock processes. I've used many tuners over the years, TTS for Harley being the most versital yet complicated I've used; they do have awesome documentation and instructions though along with multiple instructional videos on the web. So far Duramaxtuner.com and EFIlive seem to have a superior product for the Colorado applications and I'm looking forward to testing this setup on a 3400 mile trip back across.

Well, back home to Oregon now. Unfortunately the ECU unlock was being problematic and took some time for EFI Live a Duramax tuner to sort out. I did get the AFE intake installed prior to the trip back. Slight increase in throttle response from the intake, very clean looking under the hood. Fuel efficiency was less or about the same, hard to gauge accurately due to hauling back about 500 pounds heavier for weight and strong headwinds from all of the storms last week. I'll update more on the tuner and performance gains after I get it all sorted out with Duramaxtuner.com oh, before I forget, Brandon with their tech support was very helpful, knowledgeable and professional.

Quick update. The trans tune and ECU map was installed on Monday. Since then I've noticed an increase of about 4mpg, the power and shift points are greatly improved over stock, and thus far, no adverse events. Overall, I love this tuning, it woke up the truck, and makes for a much better driving experience. Too bad GM isn't doing this right out of the box.

My 2.8 Duramax Colorado runs like a gazelle now. The Hot Tune and Transmission Tune all can say is WOW what a difference, Green Diesel Engineering out of Michigan nailed it on this Tune. I might as they have the best customer service, if you don’t buy from these guys you’re taking a risk. Go EFI Live!!!
