Code 31096 popped up and a 175 miles till 65MPH limit related to Emission System Service. l was told it had to do with low temps and some DEF tand heaters.
Does anybody have any input on this?
Any info would help.
Thank you.

Don't quote me on it, but I thought I heard something about DEF tank heaters not being up to par, though mine has been ok.

Not exactly on topic, but we are experiencing a polar vortex here in the Midwest.
Given I have only had my truck a little over a month I thought I would leave outside over night for a cold start.. Temp was around 3 above zero. It started with no problem.

Mine has been starting fine, though you can tell it's cold out.

Guess I should have knocked on wood or something. Was driving along and then Bam! frozen DEF emoji and warning about reduced power speed and a check engine light Warning stayed up for 15-20 minutes then went away. Check engine still there, emoji gone. Called Stealer about halfway into it and made an appointment. Yippie.

It's anywhere from 1 to 3 deg F out now depending on where I'm driving and the warning didn't come back. I could erase the the code, but I'll leave it there for the poor techs at the stealer.

All:
Do not fill your DEF tank more than 1/3 full when DEF might freeze.
It expands as it freezes and can damage the tank.
Winter reminder.
And
The heater has less work to do if you keep min amount of def in the tank in the winter.
I keep min below 50%
Its at 15% now and I will let it go lower before I put a little more in.

So the Check engine light went away and winter is almost over, which means I'm going to do the right thing and pretend this never happed.
