I have the 2017 GMC Canyon SLT mini max and all the dealerships seem to think the rear tailgate should automatically lock when you hit your button.

Do any of you guys have an SLT level that automatically locks with the rest of the vehicle?

Or does anyone know the best way to take care of it? Is there an aftermarket solution or do you just install an actuator inside the panel and run a wire back to it that's tapped into the lock system?

I have the same exact truck, and the tailgate lock is still manual. Does not work with FOB.

I added the PopLock to my SLE with the manual key lock. It works fine. Only ‘issue’ is that it is LOUD when the actuator moves. CLUNK! It’s almost as loud as the horn chirp.

Installation was pretty easy. My tailgate had an aftermarket spray-in liner, so that made getting the access panel off a challenge. The wiring instructions were a little unclear also. They described the wire to tap into as tan w/ stripe (iirc) and it was more grey or taupe. I wound up tracing a wire from the door actuator to make sure I had the correct one.
