How to tell if your truck finished its regen cycle

Just wanted to share this with you guys. It's very useful if your truck starts a regen and you are in a short drive and you want to finish out the regen.

For those of you who have spade/auto cal hand helds from efi live this is how to see.

Go to scan tool
Go to select PIDs
Go to your engine controller (e98)
Go to display data
Hit ok on unknown PIDs

You have a full list of the PIDs which show you lots of things.

DSTDPFR means distance since last dpf regeneration. It resets to zero as soon as your regen is complete.

Other scanners may also show this, but I would not be able to help you with how to read or find it.

For those of you who don't know how to tell if a regen has started, look for higher idle (900rpm), and your instant mpg will be lower. Also, your instant mpg won't say 99 during DFCO (deceleration fuel cut off). In the scanner you can see the egr also is closed during a regen.

Nice! All those "unknown PIDs" should have a numeric code attached to them... if you can see any of the codes attached to any of those PIDs you recognize, I'd really appreciate it if you could post any that you think would be useful. That's what I need to get my scanner/dash app to display them!
I bought my Colo 2 weeks ago and it is my first diesel. This is the first I have heard of a "regen" cycle. I can speculate a little but would like more definite information. How often? For how long? What happens?

I would also like to know if anyone has any good information about replacement bulbs for the headlights. I agree with Motor Trend's characterization that they suck. Also the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave them their lowest rating. I had recent experience with driving in very remote and dark forested areas and they do suck. What are the best deals and how difficult to replace?

You should've received one of these with the truck. If not, here you go.

Regens happen about once every tank of fuel and require 30+/- mph for 20mins or so to complete a cycle. This is the basics that you need to know to operate the vehicle.

It's a lot to explain, you'd be better off searching YouTube for a video that explains all of it
