Hello the name is Kamil. I got a 2016 colorado crew cab long bed diesel about a year ago. i have had DEF issues with it and i want to delete it and all the other emissions. I've been looking around at tunes and the only tune i found was the PPEI tune that allows for deletes. but I've seen some people got some other tunes and my question is how do the tunes you guys got effect the deletes. and also i can't find anywhere that if you straight pipe the truck then what happens to the DEF system. I've had issues with that system when it was stock. does a tunes delete the use of DEF ? thanks for any help in advance.

There are others aside from PPEI. MotorOps does delete tuning with the 4 position switch. They are related to DuramaxTuner and both are good companies. Dans Diesel does as well, along with All-In Truck Performance and OZ Tuner. There are probably others, but I know of these ones for sure and they seem to have a good reputation.

A delete tune will pretty much tell the trucks ECM computer that all the sensors are still plugged in that go to the EGR, CAT, DPF and DEF systems. If you try unplugging them without a delete tune, the ECM will get very crabby and give you errors and limit the speed of the truck to like 5 mph.

When you straight pipe the truck, to my knowledge, you unplug all of the sensors that were originally attached to the exhaust and tape/ ziptie them up and out of the way. There should also be the DEF injector plugged in somewhere as well and you unplug that and I would guess that whatever DEF is left in your DEF tank is going to drain out now. You will not need it anymore, but the tank will stay in place.

You need to figure out what your wants and needs are. What do you want to accomplish by deleting your truck? Then visit the Colorado fans forum and read the thousands of posts over there in the “ultimate delete thread” or whatever it’s called.

You’ve got full deletes where you rip out everything and then you have gde which just kills the egr and the def and you don’t remove anything

Either way, say bye bye to that powertrain warranty.

yea I'm not worried about my warranty cause its almost done anyway i have the truck just over a year and already have 30k miles and the dealer i bought from is crap when its comes to warranties. i just want to do what i did to my old jetta tdi make a fuel efficient nice sounding reliable diesel. in my jetta i had the malone stage 2 tune with a straight pipe and i had that car for 2 and a half years with almost 80k miles and never had any issues with it. granted the tdi was a 6spd and fwd. just want something fun to drive in the long run. i know it won't be stupid fast which i don't care about I'm not trying to have. just something that sounds and looks good thats reliable. imma do my research and hopefully when i decide my other half will let me buy the parts i need haha.

Most tuners that offer delete tuning, at least MotorOps, All-In Truck Performance and probably Dans Diesel and OZ Tuner (not for sure though on those two) will give you more than just 1 tune. The delete part is just built into the programming of those manufacturers products to do away with the emissions system. It will turn it off, and it's up to you if you want to leave it on the truck or take it off. Leaving it on there will probably help you, but all of the parts that are restricting things are still in place. Like I said though, all of those manufacturers offer more than 1 tune, although they do offer a single tune option as well.

Single tune; you just choose what you want like performance, tow, fuel economy, whatever.

Multi-Tune is available by either plugging the Auto Cal unit into your diagnostic port and changing the tunes on there as you wish, which takes about 10 minutes to change, or they also have where you can add a DSP4 switch (MotorOps has this for sure, and I believe others have it but I can't say for sure who) which allows you to switch tune on the go while driving down the road. Most manufacturers have 4-5 tunes that will come with a multi-tune auto cal: improved stock, tow, sport-economy and performance.

Here is the link to the MotorOps unit I mentioned. It is in Canadian dollars, but you can do a CAD to USD conversion to figure out the price and they do ship to the US btw. http://motorops.ca/tuning/duramax/2-8l-duramax-canyon-colorado-auto-cal.html
