Dealer is asking $400 for an oil change and fuel filter change, that’s too much for me to spend.

Does anyone know what gasket for the drain plug is? I like to order a few so I can just get oil from Walmart. I tried the search engine with no luck.

Thanks in advance!

That said, the gaskets are reusable and don't need to be replaced every oil change. In fact, I never changed my gasket and, eventually, installed a Fumoto drain value after 3 years of ownership.

Nothing hard about either of those procedures. Could probably get those done for less than $100 oil/ filter _ fuel filter on a Saturday morning . No need to replace the drain plug washer unless there is a leak. I recommend you purchase the correct socket and an extension bit (if you don't have one) for the oil filter acesible from the engine bay. Way faster than messing with an adjustable wrench

The fuel filter is a piece of cake. Search youtube for videos on both procedures

The important thing is to use the right oil . Without getting into an Oil-War, an affordable oil that meets the Dexos2 and GM spec for this truck (and available at most walmart ) is https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennzoil-Platinum-Euro-L-Full-Synthetic-5W-30-Motor-Oil-5-Quart/495194903

Sharing my experience. As of late, I've been doing the oil and filter change procedure myself. There really isn't anything complicated about it and there are tons of instructional videos and articles. If there is no leak and the drain plug gasket is intact, you don't need to change it. If you do it yourself, you will save a lot of money.

About the fuel filter. You can find the best fuel filter for Duramax Diesel here! By the way there is also information on how to replace it.

Looks like you have a full-size truck with the 6.6 Duramax, so the fuel filter link doesn't apply. This forum is for the mid-size trucks with the 2.8L Duramax.

Just use the UFI filter or AC-Delco filters. UFI makes the filters for GM so it's the same exact filter.

I don't know about the fuel filter deal on the 6.6l Duramax, but a few 2x6 blocks to put the front end up will allow you to change your own oil and filter. The correct Fumoto installed in place of the OEM drain plug makes the job a "mental holiday" and a less costly alternative to the $400 quote you received.

I do my L9 Cummins, 26 qts of CK4 10W30, oil filter and TWO fuel filters, for less than that along with the knowledge it was done right! And, I might add, a pleasurable morning taking care on my own equipment.

You won't find suitable oil at Walmart. But you can get both the oil and filter on the interweb. Even though it's expensive, you will save 4/5 of the dealer price. And it's easy to change. Did mine last week. I like the filter design especially. We summer in Cal and I take 6 quarts and a filter with us. I get charged $35 labor for that oil change.

i used IDParts.com and the kit was affordable and it came with the oil plug gasket. I’m doing my own oil changes since I have not been able to find any oil change company that uses Dexos2 oil.

Get yourself a cheap click torque wrench you can set to 12 ft/lbs to tighten the drain plug and filter cap. Don’t over tighten those and you are good to go.

I have been getting mobil1 ESP 5w30, which is Dexos2 rated. on Amazon reorder, for years now. It's been so long I forget who actually sells it to me. For those wanting more viscosity, I'm sure it is available.

A great reminder. I shortcutted this last week and appear to have gotten away with it. But you are entirely correct.

Depends on the Walmart, a lot of them do carry quarts and/or gallons of Pennzoil Euro L 5w-30 which is dexos2.
