Well this is a bummer :(
Just bought a 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison and there has been a delay in getting it from the dealer due to a recall.
I'm assuming this is model wide by the description; anyone in the US dealing with this as well?
  • GM Recall #:
  • N192273630
  • Transport Canada Recall #:
  • 19005
  • Date Issued:
  • Nov 14, 2019
Recall Title:

Various Diesel Models DPF Regeneration Frequency OBD Monitor

Recall Description:

All vehicle models in the population have been identified with at least one of these DPF regeneration frequency diagnostic conditions: The ECM DTC P2459 regeneration frequency diagnostic does not adequately detect when DPF regeneration occurs more frequently than should be expected based on engine operating conditions. The diagnostic system does not detect when a regeneration cycle does not sufficiently reduce soot load (incomplete regeneration) and additional regeneration is required upon completion of a regeneration cycle (continuous regeneration). The emissions increase, resulting from too frequent regeneration, can exceed twice the OBD malfunction threshold without illuminating the MIL.

Safety Risk Description:

TBD

Repair Description:

Emissions Recall to program ECM with remedy datafiles.

Customer Action:

TBD

Part Availability:

TBD

Recall Status: INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE

I was scheduled to get it from the dealer on Monday when I got a call in the afternoon stating that it looked like there was a recall on it. The Sales fellow stated he didn't know what the recall was for or how long it would take. Curiosity peaked, I went onto the NHTSA's website and came up with zero recalls for my VIN as well.
I was thinking something was amiss but decided to wait it out.
Today I got a call and an email from the dealer with a little more info, but again, not much - just that there was a recall, no news on the repair and no news on ET completion.
So after hearing that news I decided to go onto Chevrolet Canada's website, where I got the above posted recall info.

So I guess wait-out and see what transpires.
At first glance it would appear the emissions and Diesel Particulate Filter is at issue, as I've read some on this forum and other places as well have had problems.
This is reminding me of my 2012 Jetta TDI as I recall reading similar stories with DPF and Vdubs throwing codes.
I'd go on a limb that was the sole reason VW worked around the poor performance/engineering of DPFs in the first place and what lead them to land in hot water over the whole 'diesel-gate' nonsense.

Hmm....

GM RECALL CENTER
If a recall has been issued for your GM vehicle, including Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, HUMMER or SAAB, find it here.

Currently, there are no recalls or programs associated with your 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Interesting. Maybe a Canada only recall initiated by Transport Canada or Chevrolet Canada?
That would seem odd though as a lot of Canadian standards default to ASME, ASTM and the like; It is my understanding EPA standards have been adopted for vehicle emissions, so all of North America's cars (save for Mexico) meet one standard.
I've got a file started with GM Canada to find out what is what and where this leads.

It appears to be a programming update on specific model years. It's not vehicle specific. I have a 2018 Cruze diesel and a 2019 Colorado diesel. Both have the same recall for the same reason given. Two different vehicles with two different diesel engines.

I purchased my 2017 Colorado Diesel last month. In MyChevy app I too have this outstanding recall. the status is showing "Incomplete" so I think the reprogram is now available. My truck was originally sold in New York. I too was wondering if anyone else has gotten the recall done. For me I'll get it done, I just need to figure out which local dealer I'd like to use. looking for a Chevy dealer in central NJ that does a lot of diesel maintenance. Full size diesels are popular here but in the past year I think I've only seen 2 other Colorado diesels on the road.

For anyone that is interested, I had my friend (service writer) give me a full copy of the dealer recall info. I've redacted the information about reimbursement or stuff that might be considered company-sensitive (or a least I did my darndest to do protect that info). Cheers!

It did START in Canada... no idea why it took a couple of month to get to USA, but it's in the States, now.
Cheers!

That's strange cause the predecessor that this one succeeds and that I got on MyChevrolet app lists years 2016 - 2019 but the one you list says only 2018-2019. Very strange. Sorry it's so small to read, it's a screen grab from my phone.

You can never flash back to an "older" tune? I'm not tuned but I always assumed you could flash back to an older one.

I'd love to know why you can't flack back, unless you were deleted.

I had an intact tune, no delete. The reason your previous tune won't work is because this recall updates the ECM to a different version operating system. The tuner has to update the tune to work on the new OS.

When you try to flash your previous tune you get an OS fault and the flash fails.
