go to yakima's web site you can put your vehicle in and it will show you options. There are options available for the roof, and there are bars that can be put on the bed to keep things elevated above the bed, kind of like the system Chevy uses.

At some point (when I want to totally kill my mileage and drill holes in my roof) I will probably install a Smittybilt Defender rack, if bolted to the roof they are rock solid and tough to knock off. I haven't measured things out but I suspect the 4x4x4 model would look nice on the Colorado with a light bar on front. Here is a 'How To' where the put one on a larger PU.

I installed the Rhino Rack system. The legs and instructions are vehicle specific. Very difficult to drill the holes in the ditches due to nearby weld. They work very well and the bars are easily removed when not in use.
