Single “clunk” sound when starting

Hello all,

I have a 2018 Canyon 2.8 with 76k miles. As of late it has started to make a single “clunk” sound when starting. Runs perfectly fine otherwise. Any thoughts on what this could be? Cause for concern?

Thanks!

I know the transmission did that on my 21 3.6L. Clunked at startup, changing into drive and reverse; especially when cold at first startup. That was the major reason why I traded it in a month ago and got a new 21 duramax. So far, so good!

It could be a bad motor mount and the torque of starting tweaks the engine enough to produce the noise.
I've been experiencing an intermittent clunk at startup for a few months, maybe 1 out of 20 starts. Haven't been able to track it down. Post again if you figure it out and I'll do the same.
I also am experiencing the same issue. I have a 2020 and it did it for the first time about 6 months ago. It has never done it when it is cold. Only warm and when you go to start it after a short ~ 5 min shutoff. I have been underneath while having someone try and repeat it. But haven’t been able to ever repeat it when I want to.
My 2021 Did this about a total of 10 times since new Jan 2022. 4k miles on it now. Has not happened in warm weather.
I have a 2020 ZR2 that's been doing that as well but only when starting it with the key. Lately, when starting with the remote, it's made a grinding/rattling sound. Dealership can't figure it out. I've also experienced when driving like it is "jumping" into another gear or almost like it's going to die out.
